The
Lagos
Chamber
of
Commerce
and
Industry
which
was
established
in 1888
is the
Premier
Chamber
of
Commerce
in
Nigeria.
It was
incorporated
in 1950
as a
non-profit
making
organization,
limited
by
Guarantee
under
the
Companies
Act of
1948.
The
Primary
objective
of the
Chamber
is to
promote,
support
or
oppose
legislative
or other
measures
affecting
trade,
industry,
commerce
and
agriculture
as well
as
represent
the
opinion
of the
business
community
on these
matters
in
particular
and the
economy
as a
whole.

The
Business
Service
Unit (BSU)
now
Business
Education,
Services
&
Training
Unit of
the
Chamber
was set
up in
1996
with the
aid of
the
German
Agency
for
Technical
Cooperation
(GTZ)
under
the
Small
and
Medium
Enterprises
Project
with the
sole aim
of
promoting
and
developing
Small
and
Medium
Enterprises
(SMEs)
in
Nigeria,
through
the
provision
of
Business
Development
Services,
thus
making
them
competitive
both
locally
and
internationally.
